How to Pack Your Electronics for Your Move
Electronics can be expensive. That’s why it’s important to protect them during the move to your new home. Follow our electronic packing tips to ensure all your gadgets make the move in one piece.
1. Gather manuals and back up any data
Before you pack any of your electronics, make sure any data is backed up. It’s also extremely useful to gather any manuals or documents that go with the specific piece of technology; pack any manual literature in the same box as the device itself.
2. Remove batteries
Remove batteries from your devices to keep them from overheating and leaking.
3. Unplug any wires & accessories
To make your life easier once you arrive at your new home, label your cables and/or wires. Use colored stickers or tape to match the cable to the device that it goes with. This way, there won’t be any confusion once you get to your new destination. Once your devices and cables are labeled, wrap the cables neatly and place them in small plastic bags.
4. Protect the fans in your devices
From computer monitors to TVs, it’s important to protect the fans in your devices. To do so, wrap your gadgets with bubble wrap or paper towels and tape them shut to prevent anything from entering the electronics.
5. Use padded moving blankets for larger electronics
For bigger electronic devices, like flat-screen TVs, you can use padded moving blankets instead of trying to fit them into moving boxes.
6. Cushion all your devices
When you pack your electronics away in boxes, make sure to use bubble wrap or another packing material to pad your gadgets. If you’re working on a device with a screen, use an extra layer of bubble wrap to protect it.
7. Store electronics in a climate-controlled environment
Once you’ve packed your belongings, it’s important that you keep them in a climate-controlled space. This is crucial because even small amounts of moisture or temperature fluctuation can short circuit your electronics.
